我的虛擬生活

其實我每天早上出門前固定收到許多不同的email警報: 通勤火車誤點, 過敏指數偏高(是啊, it's that time of the year), 惡劣天氣將至, 即時超重要新聞, 今天的重要行程... 在工作上則常收到從客戶端系統發來的警報, 像: Dealer的價格檔案沒到, 定價計算錯誤太多, portfolio出現太多未知金融商品, 資料庫出問題, 等等... 三不五時(像是旅行時)則會收到像: 妳的飛機將誤點2小時, 州際公路20號大塞車請繞道, 妳的目的地西雅圖氣溫偏低攝氏5-10度, etc... 另外還有許多"降價/商品特報": NY-LA 的來回機票現在變成$139, eBay上你出標的iPod現在被outbid了請加碼, IKEA春季大拍賣6折起, 該付某信用卡帳單...等 這些各式各樣, 無其不有, 無所不在的"email警報"整天跟著我, 再我的電腦上, 以及手機上, 提醒我所有該做的事, 該打的電話, 該開的會, 該付的帳單, 重要的事件, 以及週遭所有跟我相關的事. 我簡直無法想像一天沒有email的生活, 我不但中了咖啡的毒(謝謝曼哈頓5歩一家的星巴克), 也中了email的毒. 有時想想我的生活是太虛擬化了. 我所有的家庭照片都上網(目前在flickr上共1萬6千張,其中3,4千張公開) 我的家庭錄影帶也上網(在youtube上), 我的許多重要文件的掃描備份也上網. 我的所有朋友通訊錄都在網上(Gmail), 我有許多PDF文件書籍也已上傳; 20GB+ 的 MP3 有一部分也已上網...另外我的銀行信用卡, 報稅的繳費, 行事曆, 讀的報紙, 讀專業雜誌, 到鎮上圖書館借書, 預定餐廳, 聽pandora個人化收音機, 我的網上"日記"(部落格啦, 你在看其中一個), 我的筆記(google note), 我的同學會, 我的活動邀請函(evite)...另外,我跟我的公司"隊員"都用IM隨時交談, 我們用Salesforce來紀錄所有跟客戶有關的活動, 用 Google Group來追蹤儲存文件檔案(所以出差也能方便的取得). 我們也用網站來 release/patch我們的軟體, 來讓客戶下傳文件... 今天如果互聯網被中國或伊斯蘭駭客攻擊而停擺, 我絕對開始在家度假. 我會帶著小孩們到海邊散步, 放風箏, 騎三輪車, 然後出門前"必須"被迫打開報紙來看今天的天氣來決定要穿什麼衣服, 然後跟小孩玩到一半也不會因收到一封"緊急"(所有顧客那邊牽涉到千萬美元的風險當然都被視為"緊急"囉)的email而必須放下孩子跑到遊戲場旁邊打電話給客戶排除問題, 然後也不用擔心我的手機會"告知"我晚上的行程,所以我可以跟孩子盡興的玩到天黑... 咦, 我這個geek竟然用了好像有點羨慕的口氣來描述"科技末日"?
